2008 Saturn Outlook

by Madelyn Miller

Some women go to singles bars. Others walk their dog in a prominent park. Art gallery openings are also a way that has been recommended to me for meeting men.

But nothing can beat the attention you get with a 2008 Saturn Outlook.

For the first time in my newly single life, I have had men literally chasing after me. It wasn't my expensive perfume, my designer clothes, my new hairstyle, or my stiletto heels. It was my car. The 2008 Saturn Outlook.

Historically, older men drove Corvettes to attract women. But I didn't know there was a  car associated with attracting men. Until I drove the new  2008 Saturn Outlook.

GETTING SECOND GLANCES

The first time I realized driving a Saturn gave me instant cache was when  I arrived in Shreveport, Louisiana. A man came running up to me and asked with baited breath, "Is that your car?"   I explained I was test driving it. He looked at me in awe, as if I was a handler for a celebrity.

He remarked that you can't even buy that model yet. (It was true at the time I was driving it a few weeks before the actual model was introduced). That told me he knew a lot about cars, and particularly about the 2008 Saturn Outlook. Wise man.

LESSON NUMBER ONE:
The Saturn Outlook attracts smart men.

We talked about the car a little more and then I decided to ask if he wanted to sit in it.

The look on his face told me this was like an invitation to a box seat at a Superbowl game.

So that started me on a quest. Would every man like this car? Would they want to sit in it? Was it more attractive to younger or older men? Would it get more attention in a parking lot or at an airport? Did well dressed men like it more than casually dressed men?

Throughout this article, you will see some of the men who were eager to "test-sit" the Saturn Outlook.

The only man who was less than eager was the youngest man. But his girlfriend got so excited about it, he suddenly decided he wanted to do it. That fact supports research that shows the buying decision on vehicles is made by more women than men.

THIS MAKES ME FEEL CONFIDENT

A car maker who can offer a 100,000 mile warranty knows they have built a car that can last.

And the 2008 Saturn Outlook got 5 star rating Crash Test Ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A five-star rating in the frontal crash test indicates that there is a 10% or less chance of serious injury. In the side-impact tests, a five-start rating means a 5% or less chance of serious injury

LADIES START YOUR ENGINES

The Outlook is powered by the 3.6 L
DOHC
24-valve
HFV6 engine with
Variable Valve Timing , available in two versions:

XE
- 270 hp (198 kW) and 248 ft·lbf (331 Nm) of torque

XR
- 275 hp (199 kW) and 251 ft·lbf (335 Nm) of torque (dual exhaust)

Both versions use the
Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed
automatic transmission, and are available with either
front-wheel drive or
all-wheel drive.

And even if this doesn't mean anything to you, take it from me, it really impresses men.

ROOM FOR LOTS OF PASSENGERS AND MY STUFF OR BOTH

The "industry first" SmartSlide second row makes this fit my multiple personalities—Mother, shopper, traveler, etc. To describe it simply, Smart Slide feature allows quick, easy one-handed movement of the second-row seats to provide access to the third row so you can get in back to the 3rd row

The Outlook can seat eight in a three-row setting. The front row consists of two bucket seats, and the second row is available as either a 60/40 split-folding three-passenger bench seat or two individual "captain chairs." The third row is a 60/40 split-folding three-passenger bench seat.

In case of both bench seat or captain chairs, the seat cushion flips forward while the seat is being slid forward, which allows for "compression" of the space used by the seat in the foremost position. If the third seat is folded, this allows for expansion of the cargo area. The system also allows for fore-aft adjustment of the middle seat to change the spacing between the second and third-row seats for more legroom.

CAN A GIRL EVER HAVE TOO MUCH SPACE?

For families with large people-hauling or cargo-toting needs, the Outlook is no doubt one of the best crossover SUV choices. There is even enough room for all my stuff when I am coming HOME from a trip.

Compared to traditional body-on-frame full-size SUVs, the unibody Outlook provides advantages in terms of ride, handling and fuel economy. Its advantages continue inside, where an attractive interior boasts seating for up to eight passengers or more than 100 cubic feet of available cargo space

ON STAR

If you have never experienced On Star, you should at least test-drive a car that offers it. It is sort of like having your best friend sitting right next to you, helping you find your way. And they will help you in an emergency.

I accidentally hit the emergency button when I was test driving. I was running out of gas, and wanted to ask where the nearest gas station was. Although the emergency operator did not consider this an emergency, they politely said that they like to prevent emergencies, and guided me to turn around rather than proceed forward to get gas. How tactful. My mother would be proud of them. Which brings me to my mother…..

MY MOTHERS ADVICE

My mother always said, you'll never know when you will meet the man of your dreams .But wouldn't it be nice to meet him when you are driving a Saturn Outlook?
