| 2006 Pontiac Solstice – Rare Beauty!by Becky J. BeallWhen my son was small he had a fascination with Matchbox® die cast cars. He had hundreds of them. They were in my purse, in the floor, in the bathtub…they were everywhere. He simply loved them. And he loved the red convertible sports car most of all. He got that from my DNA.
This year, Pontiac has stepped out with a wild leap of faith producing the two-seat roadster known as the Solstice. According to Webster's, solstice refers to the time of year when the sun reaches the point farthest north or south of the equator. In other words, a rare moment in time. The 2006 Solstice certainly resonates with the feeling of a rare moment in time.
Sporting a sleek appearance with curvy lines and a dual-port grille, this vehicle is a girl's best friend. The top folds down easily into the clam-shaped hood, transitioning the Solstice into a seamless, integrated convertible. Five-spoke aluminum wheels and a low, wide stance are classic roadster identification marks. The pedals are carefully placed with "heel-and-toe" driving in mind and a cockpit-style instrument panel surrounds the driver offering an "in control" feeling. The Pontiac Solstice is built on a new rear-drive Kappa architecture platform and gathers its 177 horsepower from a 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine—sophisticated and lightweight. Several option packages are available including the full power package (locks, mirrors and windows, remote keyless entry), the convenience package (cruise control, driver information center and fog lamps) and the premium package (leather seating surfaces in ebony or steel/sand two-tone, leather-wrapped steering wheel and steering wheel radio controls). You ladies know what I like…PREMIUM! I also favor options such as the MP3-capable radio with six-disc in-dash CD player and I've got to have my XM Satellite Radio!
I don't think I made one single stop where someone didn't cast an enviable eye toward my ride. It raised eyebrows, turned heads and made me feel like a million bucks. If you are in the market for an aggressive-looking sports car, and I don't mean a Matchbox®, you really can't afford to pass up a drive in the 2006 Pontiac Solstice.
