Don’t Miss Houston’s Keels and Wheels
Benefiting the Boys & Girls Harbor, Inc.
May 3 & 4, 2008
 Take
a step back in time to the golden era of engineering and design at the 13th
annual Keels & Wheels Concours d’ Elegance & Auction international classic car
and wooden boat show. Stroll among the 100 year old oak trees surrounding the
beautiful palm tree lined inner harbor of the Lakewood Yacht Club grounds.
Peruse the prestigious cars and vintage and runabouts, including antiques and
other rare models, that will draw collectors from all over the United States.
Stay all day and enjoy the food courts and other vendors and sponsors who will
be offering food, drink and merchandise. Not to be missed is the Art Court,
adding an elegant touch with the automotive and marine related art displayed by
very talented artists.
A special
display this year will feature Al Capone’s prized 1928 Cadillac. In his day,
Capone added a few upgrades to the four-door sedan such as one-inch thick
bulletproof glass and heavy steel plating throughout the car as a precautionary
measure. The car was installed with trap doors in the floor board allowing
passengers to drop carpet nails onto the street to flatten the tires of pursuing
cars. Painted black and green with a siren installed, the Al Capone car blended
in perfectly with police cars at the time, making it the perfect disguise.
And, if you’d like to take one of the cars or boats home with
you, a fast paced live auction will sell many of the most desirable classic cars
to the highest bidder.
In
addition to the show and auction, a commemorative recreation of the attack on
Pearl Harbor "Tora, Tora, Tora", will be performed on Sunday at 12:30 PM. Tora,
Tora, Tora prides itself in being a "3-D Museum", giving a live air show
demonstration to generations of people throughout the world. Guests will enjoy
over 60 pyrotechnic effects performed by aircraft and ground crewmen in a show
that is sure to wow the crowd. Over the years, the group of volunteers known for
their camaraderie has earned the distinction of being one of the best air shows
in the country.
