It’s a Smooth Operator!

The Cadillac CTS

 by Rochelle Brown

It was a beautiful day when I got the keys to the new 2010 Cadillac CTS.  I slid into the driver’s seat, started the engine and turned on the radio. That Bose surround sound 10 speaker system spoke to me.  The first song I heard was “Smooth Operator” by Sade.  As I backed the silver sporty car out of the space and onto the road I began to sing the song.  As I pulled onto the freeway, the engine quietly purred and I began to sing louder, “It’s a smooth operator. Co-o-o-ol operator. Coast to coast LA to Chicago…”  I adopted that song for the next three days.  Why? Because it describes perfectly this beautiful creation by Cadillac.

The body style of the CTS  is sleek and curvy. It catches the eye of bypassers and other motorists alike.  The seats are soft molded leather which adjust to the driver’s desired position and the leather wrapped steering wheel felt good to the touch. The wood accents along the dash and side panels added an air of distinction and richness that is much appreciated.  As usual when I stopped, I checked out the visor mirror before exiting.  It was a good size and lighted. Very important for us girls.

I made a quick stop at a popular local deli in an upscale neighborhood.  I felt really special, because so many eyes on the open patio were focused on the car.  So, of course, I took my time getting out. I wanted to soak up all the attention. One gentleman said as I got closer, “That’s a great looking car!”  “Thank you”, I  answered and quietly hummed more of “Smooth operator” under my breath. Yeap! If attention is what you want, this car works.

The next day, I picked up my sister, Donna, to get her take on the car. She actually owned one in 2006. She is the luxury car queen.  She was fascinated by all the changes. The seats were different, the dashboard had some welcome changes and she swears the ride was a bit smoother than it was four years ago.  Anyway, looking good in our designer sunglasses, we continued to cruise the city.

I discovered later that the Cadillac CTS sports sedan won the Motor Trend’s 2008 Car of the Year and was named Top Safety Pick by the insurance institute for Highway Safety.  That was very reassuring.

The Cadillac CTS comes with a number of trims and packages. The CTS gets a cool 18 miles per gallon in the city and smooth 27 miles per gallon on the highway.  The price depends on the package you desire. The starting MSRP is around $41,565 with lots of standard equipment and about $10,000 more fully loaded.

So, just remember you can be a Smooth Operator, too, in this car.  Don’t forget your sunglasses.
